“Let nature be your teacher” –  William Wordsworth

At Jaipuria, Nature walks and outdoor play are an integral part of the Playgroup pedagogy. By being outside in the fields and surrounded by nature, children experience an ever-changing and free-flowing environment that stimulates all senses. Nature walks and outdoor play fosters a child’s intellectual, emotional, social and physical development.

Maintaining all social distancing norms, the school organized an offline session for its Playgroup children. It was absolutely wonderful to witness the joy of these curious little minds as they entered the school gate and were welcomed by their teachers.

Children were free to explore, move about, and make noise; all delightful forms of self-expression that have been restricted by online learning. Being in nature enabled children to run, jump, hop, skip, climb, roll, and shout, which helped them completely relax and unwind.

The little explorers were taken out in the fields and asked to tell their teachers what they see, hear, smell or feel. Some of the experiences like listening to bird calls, the rustle of leaves on trees, the crackle of dry twigs and leaves beneath the feet, and even the tap-tap of their tiny feet aroused their auditory sense and they become alive to the sounds of nature around them. By scribbling on the sand using twigs and stems, the artist in each child was realized- letters, numbers, shapes etc. were reinforced in the process.

Once again, the school campus was filled with positive energy, reverberating laughter and shouts of glee from the children.
